Though there are 127 islands and islotes that comprise the Galapagos archipelago, only five islands are inhabited. Those islands in order of descending population are Santa Cruz, San Cristóbal, Isabela, Floreana and Baltra. Each of these islands has it’s own focus and flavor.

Santa Cruz Island is the entertainment and activities epicenter of all the islands and boasts the largest variety of accommodations and services. San Cristobal Island is home of the center of government as well as one of the two airports that receive flights from the mainland. Isabela Island is the largest island in the Galapagos but it is the least populated of the main three islands and has the longest beach in all of the Galapagos. Floreana Island is home to about 100 families and a rich pirate history. Baltra Island is the location of the main airport that receives flights from the mainland as well as an active military base.
Ideally your time in the Galapagos will allow you to experience all five of these inhabited islands and decide for yourself which is your favorite. If your time is more limited our Itinerary Specialist can work with you to determine which islands will best fit your travel style and interests.
