What is Freediving?
Freediving is an underwater diving technique that requires the diver to hold their breath the whole time they are underwater. Breathing techniques and training helps the divers hold their breath for longer while diving deeper.
Freediving is also referred to as breath-hold diving or skin diving.

Even if you’ve only ever been snorkeling, Galapagos Alternative and Apnea offer immersive experiences for everyone’s comfort level and skill level. All excursions and courses happen under the guidance of PADI certified freediving instructors.
Option 1: Half-Day Excursion Freediving in the Galapagos
You might think, “I can’t hold my breath that long. I won’t be good at freediving.”

Apnea Freediving Galapagos offers a half day, Discover Freedive Experience. This experience is for those who have never been freediving and are interested in giving it a try.
During this excursion, you will learn the basics of this adventurous sport in one of the most adventurous places on Earth!
Divers must be at least eight years old.
Option 2: Take a 2-day PADI course and get your Open Water Freediving Certification
Come to the Galapagos and learn something! This 2-day PADI certification course will make the Galapagos your classroom as you learn the principles of freediving. You will practice the necessary breathhold techniques and practice free immersion.
Must be at least 15 years old for certification.
Where to go freediving in the Galapagos
Depending on the season and the weather conditions, there are several popular dive spots around Santa Cruz island where you can see rays, sharks, sea lions, marine iguanas, sea turtles and a variety of fish.
